In creating any safe environment, awareness and education are essential. The Diocese has chosen the Praesidium program Armatus, an on-line training program to “provide a foundational understanding of the risks, warning signs, and appropriate responses to child sexual abuse. It also discusses preventative strategies and how to implement them.” All priests, deacons, ministry leaders, and employees and volunteers who interact with children and teenagers on a regular basis have an obligation to complete this program (e.g. Faith Formation teachers/assistants, CYO coaches and cheerleaders, and adults who assist in any youth ministry including the Junior Choir and Teen Mass). Please contact Mark Creighton of the Faith Formation Office, (860) 342-2308, to receive this training.
"Called to Protect" or "Save God’s Children" is a Diocesan sponsored workshop on the topic of the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse. Workshops are held throughout the year in the Norwich Diocese.
Adults who do not volunteer in youth ministries are also invited to take the training.
Please contact the Faith Formation Office to start the process (860) 342-2308.
